Lax Coaches

Head Coach Deron Ambler has been playing lacrosse since the age of 15. He played all three years at Patrick Henry Senior High, where his team won the 1995 California Lacrosse State Championship. He won Henry’s team MVP award his Senior year and was selected to the San Diego County High School all star team in 1996. He went on to be a 4 year starter at San Diego State University Lacrosse where he was selected to the Western Collegiate Lacrosse League All Star team twice. Coach Ambler was elected to the SDSU Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2014. He has worked the Great Western Lacrosse Camp, which was founded in 1984 focusing on skill development. Coach Ambler is in his 13th year of teaching Physical Education. He has also coached high school football, girls soccer, girl’s tennis and badminton.

Assistant Coach Andy Osborn began playing lacrosse as a junior at Serra High School in 1994. In 1995 he was selected as an Academic All-American for boy’s lacrosse. In 1996 Osborn went on to play middie at San Diego State where he received the rookie of the year award during his freshman year, served as the SDSU Lacrosse Club President, was a three year team captain, and was twice selected to the WCLL Division II All-Star team. After graduating from SDSU, Osborn worked as a lacrosse official for two years. He was elected to the SDSU Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2005. After being away from the game for a few years due to a series of knee injuries, Osborn returned to the field in 2013 as an assistant coach at SDHS and loves once again being a part of the original all American sport.

Assistant Coach David Asuncion began playing lacrosse at San Diego State in 1998. In 2000, he transferred to California State University, Stanislaus where he started the club Lacrosse team. Asuncion played attack at CSU Stanislaus for the next two years and served as the Lacrosse Club President both seasons.  After graduating with a degree in Mathematics he started working as a math teacher at Manteca High and in his third year teaching took over the varsity basketball team. He coached for 10 seasons at the varsity level and coached multiple sports (sophomore baseball, freshman softball, boys and girls varsity golf) over the 13 years teaching at Manteca High.  He earned his Physical Education certificate in 2012 and taught PE the last three years at Manteca High.  He is now a Math teacher at San Diego High.
